Colmcille Region (Region No. 6)

An IPA Hill-walking weekend will

be held in Donegal on the

8th and 9th May 2010.

On Saturday 8th May, two walks

have been organised at Horn Head.

The coastal walk is a spectacular

combination of beach, cliff and

headland with spectacular views of Tory Island.

This is a four hour hike across the hills

and along the sea cliffs which are

alive with nesting seabirds

at this time of year.  For those who want

less demanding outing, participants

will be brought on a 45 minute

walk over the sand dunes to Tramore

Strand.  On the return, they will cross

the long plains of short Bent grass

and forested area.  Transport to

and from the walk will be provided.

A buffet meal function, incorporating

a fundraising event for a nominated

charity will be held in the

 Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny,

on the Saturday night,

followed by music and dance.

The Mount Errigal Hotel and Leisure Centre

will provide B&B on 7th & 8th May

at special rates for participants.

(2 nights B&B. €90pps)

To book, telephone the Hotel 074 9122700.

On Sunday 9th, a walk will take place at the

Glenveagh National Park & Castle.

Participants can decide

on one of the numerous trails which

explore the wooded hillside sloping

down to the shore of Lough Veagh,

or tour the castle and gardens which feature a

range of exotic plants.  Guided tours of the

castle are provided throughout the day

at a nominal cost.

The castle tearoom serves a good selection of

food at  a reasonable cost.

The Colmcille Region invites all walkers to join

us on all or any of these walks.
